English Walnut (juglans regia) with its distinctive straight, regular grain and deep lustre is generally considered to be one of the most attractive timbers. It is often to be found in delicate, high quality work such as cabinetry, gun-stocks, panelling, inlay and veneers, small carved and turned items and is ideal for my pen and other personal designs. In the wild it is under some threat; cultivated trees form the basis for today’s commercial stocks.
