English Yew

Common Yew (taxus baccata) is a really interesting wood; known by many for its association with churchayrds. A softwood, it demonstrates all the characteristics of a hardwood; dense and strong it is also highly flexible – hence its use in archery bows. A little like Laburnum, Yew heartwood ranges from orange-brown to darker chestnut or claret hue, with a great natural lustre. It also darkens slightly with age. I find Yew turns well with a uniform finish.
